a creature chopping up my water lily leaves

I live in Florida nad have a small pond with a beautiful lily plant, purple flower,that has gold fish in it.

Twice now I have woken up to all of the leaves being shredded and one time a dead fish. We did have a possum in the yard, but think it may be a crane?
Any ideas?

Doug says that this sounds very much like animal or bird wildlife for sure. Take your pick - cranes or other fish-eating birds. Wildlife such as raccoons (your special Florida breed) also do a heck of a lot of damage to fish and ponds. Not often any of these (particularly raccoons) will leave a dead fish (cranes will sometimes - killing them just because they can)

But you clearly have a wildlife problem. (I'm betting cranes but I'm not there - cause it's not winter yet) :-)
