All my fish died overnight

by Cliff

This is our fourth year in a 550+ gal pond. It was our most successful sping, water is crystal clear, plants and fish both thriving. We purchased two small koi yesterday and introduced them to the pond, still no problem. We woke this morning to a pond that looked like somene has dumped soap into it. A thick skim of foam and bubbles in the waterfall the size of your fist. Everyone of our fash are dead. Testing does not reveal any issues, salt was down a little.
Do you have any ideas of what could have happened

Doug says sounds like somebody dumped soap into your pond. Other than that - moving from healthy clear water to scum overnight is not something I've seen. I've seen conditions deteriorate quickly but not from great to terrible in 12 hours.

definitive answer
by: Doug

There is no "definitive" answer to this question because we simply don't have enough info. Did the pump stop? Did the temperature rise very quickly? Did somebody spray something in the yard or neighbors? Did you change or add anything to the water?

Way too many questions to be even able to give you an education guess.

Sorry

Sudden death of fish
by: Anonymous

We have a 10- by 20 pond which supported 20+ koi.
Some we have had for over 12 - 15 years. This morning we had a similar situation with foam on the water and all but two fish were dead. Yesterday the water was clear and the fish active. This episode was sudden and has never happened before. Is it oxygen depletion or something else?
Anybody have a definite answer....?
