boggy site and winter

Hi,
I have a slope in my backyard which ends in a contiuously boggy spot. Instead of trying to get rid of the water, I would like to use it and grow plants that will thrive there. What would you recommend for such a site and won't the roots of the plants freeze over the winter. I live just east of Toronto in Oshawa.
Doug says that plants that thrive in boggy sites will be fine over the winter. And a full list of those can be found right here. There are other plants that are a bit more specialized such as the sundrops but these will require serious bog areas with specific growing conditions. The ones on the listed page are good starting points.
