brown water removed by diatom filter

my pond is new this year. i have some koi and fancy gold fish. have a few plants and lilies. have been using a lot of activated charcoal for over two weeks without any clearing of the brown color do you think a diatom filter will help
thank you dan
Doug says that a diatom filter will take away any floating algae for sure. It will not take away any brown staining from something like peat moss in the planting soil. It's an expensive way to go to remove the algae (check out the other comments on algae control on these pages) but it will do it.
