cutting back water lillies?

by Debbie
(Georgia)

My lillies in my pond are getting very tall. Are you ever suppose to cut them down lower?

Doug says the only time to cut back water lilies is in the late fall after they've finished growing for the year and are ready to go dormant. It's part of pond cleanup.

If they're growing "tall" now, they could be tropical lilies and these can indeed put flowers out of the water in some cases

So as long as the leaves aren't a problem but the stems are simply getting longer, leave them alone to do their thing.
