diminishing azolla

Hallo there
Is there anyone out there who can tell me if the fact that I have recently added a small amount of myriophyllum to my small , fishless pond could be responsible for the sudden decrease in the amount of azolla on the surface?

Doug says that adding this plant to the pond "should" not have decreased the azolla. But if it did - :-) you have found a new cure for a pond-scourge that bothers a lot of folks.

The only possible explanation I can give you is that "maybe" the phosphorus levels of the pond have been eliminated and the azolla is slowing down in growth and dying off from starvation. Whether the competition did that I couldn't say but that's the only thing I can come up with that might account for a reduction in azolla.

Always assuming that no spraying or chemical application was done in the area that might have drifted over and killed off the plant.
