Dirty pond

I moved to a home with a pond, the last owners died, so maybe for years my pond was full of leaves, that fell on the bottom. After a while I saw big fish inside. So little by little I put a cleaning snail, baby catfish, and two alge eaters, one died. And maybe 25 baby goldies. Then I take a rake and clean maybe one dump of leaves and black nasty out. It is been a year, and the pond keeps looking more clear. But I am doing the cleaning slow so not to kill the fish. Now one 7" did jump out and died. I think it was happy and jumped, then he was out. But I am trying. This way is slow.
