duck manure in ponds

by Marcia

Do water lilies do well in ponds with duck manure and if so do I still need to feed them if this is the case ? thanks for your advice.

Doug says - duck manure is fertilizer (nitrogen) that's going to encourage all sorts of algae and plant growth. Ducks love algae and plants - their main wild food source.

Too many variables to really answer the question properly. How many ducks, how big pond etc.

My guess is that you feed them for sport rather than food. (If food, keep feeding) ;-) If sport or fun, then feeding brings them to you - where you enjoy them.

If the water gets too green and skudzy - cut back on the feeding. If nothing happens - feed as you like. There will be less effect on bigger ponds than smaller ones so that's one of the big variables here. Less effect on ponds fed by a water stream that brings in fresh water and removes the nitrogen.

But feed if the water is clear - cut back if not.
