gunnera propagation

do not know how to seperate the gunnera plant to get starts

Doug says that when the plant goes dormant, simply dig up the plant or a chunk of the plant. You'll be able to see the new shoots coming off the sides. Divide it (this is the most common way).

You can also plant seeds when they're produced (small brown ones - keep damp and warm to germinate)

Understand that this plant can create skin problems so you do want to handle it with gloves on when you're digging, dividing etc.

Division can be done in late fall or early spring while the plant is dormant and not growing.
