Leaves in Pond - Eastern Wisconsin

Is is alright to put a tarp over the pond during the time when the leaves fall?

Doug says it would be really, really ugly and the pond life might not be too enthusiastic about perpetual night.

Get one of the netting types of leaf catching screens (or use a fruit tree net) to stretch over the pond. Remove leaves regularly from the net to keep it clean and the leaves out of the pool (soggy leaves weigh a ton)

That will keep the leaves out as well as the plants and pond life happy in the sunlight.
