My lotus seedlings died

I started some lotus from seeds. They put out nice 4" shoots in the jar, at which time I planted them in my pond. A couple of leaves appeared att he surface a few days later. Then, the leaves got crusty looking, and the lotus died!?

They were planted right next to a lily which is still doing fine.

Any ideas?

Doug says that there are a ton of reasons the plants could have died. But I'm guessing you transplanted them into a colder water too early. The seeds should be grown until they have several true leaves before going outside.

Here's an article on growing lotus from seed. I hope it helps a bit.

You are lucky at least you got to that point with germination. I got everything prepared aquarium etc. and went on to nib or use file as suggested, to find seed pods empty. Are there male and female?
