Hi Carla,
Actually the fish got moved to my 300 gallon pond for the winter but here in zone 7, he would have been fine. I did have a small bubbler for oxygenation but not for water movement per se. Water lilies perfer water with little movement. The barrel btw has a plastic drop in liner. Wine barrels must be lined so tannins don't leach out into the water. Any kind of waterproof container can be a water feature/pond. Thanks again for commenting on this pic. I look forward to it blooming again next summer!

I've always wanted a pond garden, but I know I'd need help and hubby said 'no ponds" :( But now that I've seen your container pond I think I could handle that on my own! Your's is pretty and only takes up a bit of space! Do you have to have a filter and stuff in a barrel pond? Do you keep it up in the winter and what about the fish? Here in mid-Michigan we get lots of snow, so I don't know if fish would survive when it froze...thanks for sharing!

this pond shows ingunity, using what is on hand. it also shows a pond can be made in a barrel and anyone can make a pond. I like those qualies in this pond
