snails eating water lilies

Doug says - it depends on the size of your pond. There are chemical solutions to do this but they are quite expensive and hard to measure/use unless you know your specific number of gallons in the pond. (Too much will indeed do damage to fish).
In general - not much can be done other than scooping the larger ones out. Or adding fish that eat snails (goldfish and koi do not) Understand that adding some kinds of fish may create fighting between the species. Smaller species such as the Tiger Barbs will bother snails, eat the smaller ones and not overly bother larger fish. Don't overfeed them and they'll get hungry and go after the snails (and control the algae at the same time)
Sorry - there's no real quick and dirty answer to this problem. Snails are a fact of life in ponds and when the imbalance between predator and snail gets too out of whack, they'll go after anything food source they can find (your lilies)
