The lilly root ball has come to the top of the pond

My pond is about 20ft x 10ft and 4 foot deep. This year the root ball of the lillies (they cover about 90% of the pond surface) has come to the top of the pond. The lillies are still flowering but the area of root and soil is unsightly - with garden weeds taking root too.

Doug says that it sounds as if you need to divide the plants very early next spring before the plants start growing for the season (they don't divide in fall in our cold climates - can't say whether you can get away with it in the UK)

When you start seeing the roots growing up to the surface, they're trying to expand - you simply have to divide or give them some more growing space.
