Underwater Pond Lighting Design Tips

Underwater pond lighting is a highly desired feature with waterfalls. Here are several important tips for making that garden even better. The first and most sensible is to actually do it. Yes, I know there's a cost but the enjoyment from a well lit garden will be considerable. And if you work for a living, having the pond lit means you'll enjoy it for after working hours. The main thing to consider is placement of the lights. Place one directly across the pond from the waterfall and the flow of the water. This should be underwater and will highlight the water flow. Place a second light under the water flow pointing towards the first one. This highlights the water bubbling action. Some lighting designers put this light off to one side or the other depending on the viewing point so that the light is not seen but still gives produces the effect of highlighting water movement. Experiment with this. The third light in our underwater pond lighting scheme is usually not underwater and is usually reserved for somewhere very close to the waterfalls themselves to highlight this moving water. Usually off to the side of the waterfalls and pointed away from the main viewing point of view. Dont place it so that it shines in your eyes when you're sitting in your favorite chair. And that's the easiest (and least expensive) way to achieve a simple but effective pond lighting scheme.
