watercress growing problems

Is it possible to grow watercress in a stream? I have bought plants from market that still have roots and stuck them in my stream and nothing. What is the procedure? When I was little we used to get it out of a stream by the ton.
Love to know ... thanks,
Your site is THE BEST - Oh, I'm in northern Vermont -

Doug says he's never had a problem with cress growing beside a stream or slightly into it. Mind you, it was a gentle stream not some fast moving Niagara Falls. And the water is relatively warm. But cress is easy to grow - I've even grown it in a water saucer without the stream (change water regularly - they want well aerated, fresh water) so have no idea what you're doing wrong.

Remember the roots want the moisture - not the tops. So perhaps you're planting it too deeply.
